The research in ELEMENTS builds upon and advances the work funded by other regional, national and international research support programs. In the recent years, the <a href=\"https:\/\/erc.europa.eu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Research Council<\/a> (ERC) has awarded the Principal Investigators (PIs) of ELEMENTS eleven grants (one Synergy Grant, three Advanced Grants, three Consolidator Grants, and four Starting Grants). The State of Hesse\u2019s LOEWE project \u201c<a class=\"ek-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ikp.tu-darmstadt.de\/forschung_kernphysik\/verbundprojekte\/details\/nukleare_photonik\/index.de.jsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nuclear Photonics<\/a>\u201d and the LOEWE Center <a href=\"https:\/\/hicforfair.de\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HIC for FAIR<\/a> are further examples of interconnections between ELEMENTS and the existing research areas and facilities in Hesse. The Helmholtz Initiative \u201cExtremes of Density and Temperature: Cosmic Matter in the Laboratory\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsi.de\/en\/work\/wissenschaftliche_netzwerke\/helmholtz_allianz_emmi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EMMI<\/a>) has established a favorable framework for research cooperation at CERN and GSI.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4847b28 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4847b28\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Moreover, ELEMENTS links coordinated research programs at the partner institutions that are supported by the German Research Council (DFG) and the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF). The transregio Collaborative Research Center (CRC)\u00a0<a class=\"ek-link\" href=\"https:\/\/crc-tr211.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TRR 211<\/a>\u00a0\u201cStrong-interaction matter under extreme conditions\u201d addresses extreme, strongly-interacting matter at high densities. The CRC\u00a0<a class=\"ek-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sfb1245.tu-darmstadt.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SFB 1245<\/a>\u00a0\u201cNuclei: From fundamental interactions to structure and stars\u201d investigates the structure of atomic nuclei and the impact of nuclear reactions on cosmic scenarios. The Research Training Group \u201cAccelerator Science and Technology for Energy-Recovery LINACs\u201d (<a class=\"ek-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ikp.tu-darmstadt.de\/accelence_main\/uebersicht_accelence.de.jsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AccelencE)<\/a> contributes to advancing the technology of particle accelerators and provides training on related scientific research.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-42dfca9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"42dfca9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Finally, the cooperation between the GSI Helmholtz Center for Heavy-Ion Research and the partner universities of ELEMENTS is supported by the Helmholtz Research Academy Hesse for FAIR (<a href=\"https:\/\/hfhf-hessen.de\/en\/\">HFHF<\/a>). The PIs of ELEMENTS lead three of the four national consortia (ErUM-FSP T05, T06, and T07) contributing to the international FAIR project on heavy-ion research.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-33 elementor-top-column elementor-element lead by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni-frankfurt.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Goethe University Frankfurt<\/a>, serves to prepare for the next round of the excellence strategy and is being funded by the state of Hesse, Goethe University and the co-applicants, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tu-darmstadt.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Technical University Darmstadt<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni-giessen.de\/de\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Justus-Liebig-University Gie\u00dfen,<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsi.de\/start\/aktuelles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GSI Helmholtz Center for Heavy-Ion Research<\/a>. In terms of research strategy, ELEMENTS builds on the close cooperation between Goethe University and TU Darmstadt in the network of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rhein-main-universitaeten.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rhine-Main-Universities<\/a>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f550843 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f550843\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Experimentally, researchers at ELEMENTS will benefit from advanced particle accelerators such as the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsi.de\/forschungbeschleuniger\/fair\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FAIR facility<\/a> (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research in Europe) currently being built at GSI in Darmstadt, as well as of highly sensitive gravitational-wave detectors, to probe matter under extreme conditions of density, temperature, and gravity. Experiments in FAIR (\u201cFAIR phase 0\u201d) as well as in the S-DALINAC electron accelerator at TU Darmstadt will allow to generate and study nuclear fission and capture reactions, for
