On 28 April 2022 the nationwide “Girls’ Day” – an event for female students to discover professions and subjects where the proportion of women is less than 40 per cent – took place. ELEMENTS offered girls from all over Hesse insights into particle physics and astrophysics via a digital workshop.
First, Michaela Arnold of TU Darmstadt took the attendees on a virtual tour of the particle accelerator S-DALINAC, providing interesting information on the procedures and experiments of this complex structure. Second, the girls had the chance to conduct their own “research” and discover the Universe with the help of interactive sky maps. Finally, Laura Sagunski together with other members of the Physics department of Goethe University answered all the burning questions the girls had on the daily life of a physicist and how to become one.
